The public library of Paranà is one of the largest public libraries in Brazil. The collection includes about 630 thousand books, periodicals, photographs, maps, posters and multimedia and multimedia materials. It is a special organ system subordinated to the Ministry of Culture, which occupies an area of 8,526 square meters and is one of the busiest public libraries in the country, serving an average of 3000 users a day and about 2000 books a day loans. The library was created by the vice-president of the Province José Antonio Vaz de Carvalhares 1857, the Lyceum of Coritiba. But to achieve this level of evolution, the BPP has come a long way, struggling through reformulations and 12 offices to the new building was inaugurated in 1954. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, João Café Filho and the governor of the time, professor Bento Munhoz da Rocha Neto. The building was listed as a cultural heritage on December 18, 2003, within the program to the 60th anniversary of the political emancipation of Parana. The cultural and technological additions over the years make the Public Library of Parana one of the largest knowledge units in the country. The services offered are based on equal access to all. According to the architect Iran Taborda Dudeque, the Public Library of Parana, the Guaíra Theater, the December Plaza Dezenove, the Civic Center and the Tiradentes College constitute the most important architectural ensemble in the history of Paranà.
