The Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg. Founded in 1852, it has a rich collection of objects related to German art and culture, dating from prehistory to today. With about 1,200,000 pieces it is considered the richest cultural museum of Germany. The museum was founded as a Germanisches Museum by a group of intellectuals led by Baron of Franconia Jobst Bernhard von Aufsees, who intended to compose a sort of compendium of history, literature and art of the German people over the centuries.
