The old church in Dutch oude kerk, is the oldest Catholic Church and the first parish of Amsterdam, is found in the Oudekerksplein, in the heart of the famous De Wallen, the red-Light District, in the district of Amsterdam-Centrum. It's one of the most important monuments of the country, classified as Rijksmonument in 1970, between the first 100 National Monuments from Netherlands.
Until the fifteenth century, when it was built the new church the church was called st. Nicholas. Later get in the common language simply as oude kerk, old church. To confirm the name is the current basilica of San Nicola, built in the period 1884-1887, in front of the station of Amsterdam.
For his excellent acoustics internal, in the church if they carry out many concerts, including that of the BBC singers and the academy of st Martin-in-the-Fields.
