Tourist Attraction in Tromello: Chiesetta di Santo Stefano
The legend says that one day the Holy Host is stolen from the church of San Martino, the whole population is dismayed by this sacred robbery, prayers and regrets are wasted, such a thing had never happened. On St. Stephen's Day, a wagon leaves the city pulled by a mule, no one knows who it was or where it was going, the fact that the mule suddenly stopped on the road and did nothing to follow his career, was as nailed to the ground . The more the minutes go by and the cartman gets nervous, the mule does not move. It is then that it revolves around the mule suddenly, in the green meadow he sees white spots, approaching curious and with astonishment, he realizes that near his feet there are dozens of particles. After a moment of astonishment, he leaves the wagon and the mule and runs to the city to report the incident. The news goes from mouth to mouth in an instant and, in a short time, the Rector also learns the fact. Equipped with a crucifix and wearing sacred traces, he suddenly begins a procession and leads to the place of discovery. Immediately he shouts: miracle! miracle! The area covered by the hosts was declared sacred, and this land was sanctified by the body of Christ. By popular will, it is chosen to erect a chapel, dedicating it to the Saint of the day in which the Body of Christ was rediscovered. As common property, there was no difficulty in obtaining the building permit for the church. If the story is true, we do not need to know why there are no documents; we must say that the church of St. Stephen in the pastoral visits that has taken place in the centuries is never mentioned, this is explained by the fact that it was never a property of the church but of the community. The church never had any income, so ecclesiastics, with no income, were never interested.
