Tourist Attraction in Montecatini Alto: Chiesa di San Pietro
The church of San Pietro is located in Montecatini Alto, Diocese of Pescia. It was originally the church of the castle of Montecatini, and was dedicated to St. Michael. It became parish and changed its dedication in the 12th century, when the building was completely rebuilt. The present façade, preceded by a massive medieval tower, constituted the apse head of the Romanesque church transformed into current forms in the seventeenth century. Inside there are important works: in the choir there is an Ascension of Christ by Santi di Tito; along the nave are the Martyrdom of Santa Barbara by Jacopo Ligozzi, and the Assumption of the Virgin by Carlo Maratta.
