The Cantina Petra, or Cantina Moretti, is a building located within the municipality of Suvereto, in the locality of San Lorenzo Alto. It is home to the homonymous agricultural society producing wine and oil. Built between 2001 and 2003 by Vittorio Moretti and designed by the Swiss architect Mario Botta, the winery occupies an area of about 7,200 square meters and is located in the middle of a vast expanse of vineyards. It is presented as a futuristic structure, characterized by an articulated planimetry, which in the elevation takes the form of a cylinder sectioned by an inclined plane, surrounded on the margins by two side wings shielded by long porticoes. The project, which in some respects refers to the ancient residences of the Tuscan countryside, unites the design of the vegetation with the architectural one: in fact, at the top of the cylindrical block, the vegetation is inserted, which changes its color with the succession of the seasons. to an architecture that changes over time. The central body, cut externally by a staircase, houses the tanks for the vinification and, on the ground floor and in the subsoil, the barrels for aging.
