Tourist Attraction in Camogli:
Santuario di Nostra Signora del Boschetto
The shrine of Our Lady of the Grove is a place of Catholic worship of Camogli, located in Via Enrico Figari. Place of worship for believers in the area, it was built in the place where according to popular tradition appeared the Madonna to the shepherdess Angela Schiaffino (1518). A first chapel was built, which was followed by the construction of the present sanctuary and convent between 1612 and 1631. On the third centenary of the Marian apparition, on 30 August 1818, the coronation of the miraculous image was granted by Pope Pio. VII (1817). It was Pope Pius XII, to proclaim Our Lady of the Boschetto patron of the city of Camogli. The sanctuary is a place of exceptional collection of ex-votos linked to maritime events, fishing and maritime transport of all ages. The structure has a division with three naves with Baroque decoration and with a frescoed vault depicting the scene of the Marian apparition. Before the entrance of the church, with a valuable architectural development, stands an ancient elm, maintained despite a recent reconstruction of the square in front. In the square itself the vestiges of a pre-existing building have emerged, probably the first votive chapel linked to the apparition of the Blessed Virgin. Recent restoration works allow it to be viewed. Word processing: Giovambattista Spagnuolo (Myooni)
