Tourist Attraction in Enna:
Chiesa dello Spirito Santo
The church of the Holy Spirit is part of an ancient Byzantine complex, first restored in 1320 by the Friars Minor Conventual of the Order of Saint Francis who resided there until 1393, when the buildings of the palaces confiscated from the lords of Andrea Chiaramonte were entrusted Uberti Scaloro, which later became the church and convent of San Francesco d'Assisi. It has always been annexed to the parish of San Bartolomeo Apostolo despite being still in private hands at the beginning of the twentieth century. On a rock near the church there is a bell gable, while in the rear part there was an ancient watchtower, given the strategic position for the defense of the city, overlooking the nearby Porta di Janniscuru. The structure was partially adapted by the Friars Minor for the needs of the convent, probably also constituting a refectory, while the dormitories were dug in the caves next to the church. Entering, on the left, there is the chapel of the Holy Spirit, with the effigy of the Trinity carried in procession on different occasions by the confraternity. The chapel on the right houses a statue of Mary of Sorrows, while in 2011, in the chapel of the right side corridor, a statue representing the "Christ at the column" was placed. The interior has a conformation similar to that of the Santa Casa di Loreto, with a small window that looks towards the main altar, where the Black Virgin of Loreto is located. It was reopened for worship in 2009 following the intervention of the Municipality of Enna and the Venerable Confraternity of the Holy Spirit, of which it is the seat. We celebrate the Triduum and the Solemnity of Pentecost and that of Maria Santissima Assunta on August 15th. Text processing: Giovambattista Spagnuolo (Myooni)
