Palazzo Pollicarini
Palazzo Pollicarini, a noble and fortified residence dating back to the 16th century, in Gothic-Catalan style. The imposing entrance portal, surmounted by an elegant frame, leads into the courtyard, where a portico with a pointed arch, crowned radially, opens. The building is on two floors. A large monumental staircase connects the courtyard to the main floor and the reception rooms (including the Magna room); the plan is illuminated by three rectangular windows to which is superimposed a perforated frame with arabesques; while the servants' quarters were located on the attic floor. A crowning is a cornice composed of small arches and Aragonese shaped frames. It was home to illustrious and noble families, including Falanga and Petroso, a family of ancient nobility in Enna. The historian Pirri dates back to the time of the count Ruggiero and the Mugnos reports for the first time a Manfredo Petroso honored by various charges from king Frederick II, who contributed over the centuries to maintain the decorum and splendor of this building, but to date unjustly overlooked. From the nineteenth century the Palazzo was owned by the Patelmo family, Enna lawyers and landowners, who proceeded to restore the facade of the noble floor. Family originally from Messina who enjoyed nobility in ancient Castrogiovanni (now Enna). The first appearance of this family in official texts dates back to 1184 with Maimono Falanga, a noble juror of the city of Messina (State Archives of Messina, pergular fund, 12th century, unit of S. Maria la Pietà). The historian Antonio Capece Minutoli from documentable stock a Melchiorre nobleman of Castrogiovanni (1400), shipowner and commander of the ship "Santa Maria delle Scale". Other noteworthy characters were fra 'Carlo 1578 and fra' Giuseppe 1595 gerosolimitani knights and don Giovanni 1671, colonel of the Venetian Republic.
