Tourist Attraction in Enna:
Torre Pisana
The Pisan Tower is the main tower among the six survivors of the medieval Castello di Lombardia, in the eastern foothills of Enna, as well as the major tourist attraction of the city. The Pisan Tower was so called because the Normans had entrusted it to a garrison composed of their Pisan allies. During the Arab domination it was known by the name of Torre delle Aquile because of the birds of prey coming from the nearby Nebrodi Mountains that circled around it. The building stands at over 970 meters above sea level among the curtains of the imposing Castle of Lombardy. Of very solid stone structure, the Pisan Tower is visible from the valleys below for tens of kilometers from all directions, and is distinguished by the Guelph restoration battlements. The internal staircase, which leans against a wall, is a suggestive succession of high and mighty stone steps, which lead to the top. There are windows with a pointed arch of rare workmanship. The view that can be admired from the Pisan tower, among the most famous and appreciated and for tourists visiting Sicily, ranges over two thirds of the island, embracing, with an enchanting overall effect three lakes (Lago Pergusa, Lago Pozzillo and Lake Nicoletti) and three seas: the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north, the Ionian Sea with the plain of Catania to the east, and the Sicily Channel with the plain of Gela to the south. Gentle green hills offer themselves to the west, in the direction of Caltanissetta. Text processing: Giovambattista Spagnuolo (Myooni)
