Tourist Attraction in Kalabaka:
Monastero Aghia Triada
The Monastery Aghia Triada (Monastery of the Holy Trinity) is an Orthodox monastery in central Greece, northeast of the city of Kalambaka. It is the oldest of those in Meteora, having been built in 1476. It is located at the top of a rocky pinnacle over 400 meters high and is part of the group of 24 monasteries built in Meteora, one of the oldest still existing monasteries of Meteora (Meteora means "suspended in the air" in Greek). Six of the 24 monasteries are still active and open to visitors. The church was built between the 14th and 15th century and is included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The monastery was part of the set of the movie Just for your eyes. It has a small cruciform church. The small chapel of St. John the Baptist, carved into the rock, contains frescoes from the 17th century. It was richly decorated and possessed precious manuscripts, however these treasures were plundered during the Second World War. Text processing: Giovambattista Spagnuolo (Myooni)
