On January 11, 1940, it was declared a national monument. The typology museum apartment is located on the second floor of a building in the historic center of Catania, where Verga spent her childhood and lived for many years with her family. His last heir, Giovannino Verga Patriarca, died, the building was sold to the region on February 23, 1980, which restored it and transformed it into a literary museum. The interior is still the original ones. The complete library of the writer, located in the private study room, is made up of about 2600 volumes placed on six wooden walnut libraries.
