Monument de la Renaissance Africaine

The African Renaissance Monument is a gigantic bronze monument representing the 50th anniversary of Senegal's independence, located in the city of Dakar. It is 49 meters high and is located on the top of one of the two twin hills called Collines des Mamelles, on the outskirts of Dakar. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the suburb of Ouakam, it was designed by the Senegalese architect Pierre Goudiaby, according to a suggestion presented by President Abdoulaye Wade, and built by a North Korean company. The preparatory work began at the top of the 100-meter-high hill in 2006, and construction of the bronze statue began on April 3, 2008. The original plan foresaw the end of construction in 2009, but several delays With which it was completed in 2010, and on April 4, 2010, Senegal's national day, was inaugurated to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Senegalese independence. It is the tallest statue in the world outside Asia and the former Soviet Union.
